Cracked Eggs  ✡️🌻✡️🌻✡️🌻

🐣 🐰 πŸ£:  Weather permitting, later today the White House will host its annual Easter Egg roll.  Nothing unusual about that except that this year the party led by a faux Christian Bible salesman is all twisted in knots, triggered, and spouting culture war motivated outrage over egg dΓ©cor.  Following a policy that has been in place for years and that was adhered to during the Trump administration, egg roll participants have been told to keep partisan political statements and religious symbols off their eggs. The Republican echo chamber, including a number of state governors and wannabee VPs, has latched onto the egg rules as proof that the church going, observant President Biden, his administration, and Democrats in general are a bunch of anti-Christian devil worshipers. It’s not just the eggs that have them cracked.  Yesterday was also Transgender Day of Visibility. The same right- wing crowd that is all exorcised over the eggs, went positively berserk over the White House’s Transgender Day message, over the audacity of recognizing trans people on Easter Sunday even though Transgender day unlike Easter is always celebrated on March 31. By the way, yesterday was also Crayola Crayon Day, National Farm Workers Day, and National Tater Day but no one seems up in arms about any of that, at least so far.  Wait until the grievance committee realizes that crayons come in all of the colors of the rainbow and that, OMG, light blue, light pink and white are the official transgender colors. As to Bible hawker Trump, he spent a good part of his holiday weekend on social media.  On Good Friday, he “truth posted” a video depicting President Biden tied up and gagged in the back of a pick-up truck and then on Easter Sunday he sent out an endless string of long, rambling holiday messages including one particularly notable one that attacked all the “deranged,” “crooked,” and ”evil” prosecutors and judges out to get him, giving special mention to Jack Smith and Fani Willis.  All of that was on top of his week-long attacks against New York Judge Juan Merchan and his daughter.  Isn’t that how all good Christians spend their time during Holy Week?  Worth a reminder, early in the Trump administration, comedienne Kathy Griffin was visited by the FBI, put on a no-fly list, and investigated by the Department of Justice which seriously considered charging her with conspiracy to assassinate the president over a photo of her holding a bloody fake replica of Trump’s head.  Consequences for some but none for Trump whose Teflon shield appears to still be working. Oh, and in case you are wondering, despite the assertions of some on the right, the Baltimore Francis Scott Key bridge collapse was not caused by DEI (diversity and inclusion) policies.  However, the hardworking bridge workers who died as a result of the tragedy were all recent immigrants working difficult jobs on overnight shifts.

Human Resources:  The No Labels party which includes among its founders the now late Joe Lieberman is due to pick its presidential candidate shortly, a bit of a challenge because, at least so far no one of note, seems all that interested in assuming their spoiler mantle.  Over the weekend former presidential candidate/NJ Governor Chris Christie revealed that he’s another one who has turned down their offer.  Lieberman, the former Democratic and then Independent Connecticut Senator who was Al Gore’s running mate, in the election that was questionably settled by the Supreme Court, and was also almost John McCain’s running mate, in the first election that Barack Obama won, died as a result of complications from a fall. Depending on who you listen to, Lieberman was either a centrist hero, a religious version of the also controversial Kyrsten Sinema without the odd clothing and time off for triathlons, or a sellout who almost sank the passage of the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare by refusing to cast his all-important aye vote until the public option was eliminated from the legislation. On the subject of potential spoilers, RFK Jr’s running mate Nicole Shanahan, who was probably selected because of her wealth and fundraising potential, is on record denouncing IVF which she calls a “big lie.” She’s not wrong about IVF being a difficult process that is often unsuccessful but her advocacy of “no-cost interventions like helping women conceive through exposure to sunlight” is about what you’d expect from someone running with an anti-vaxxer who’s on record saying he’s never met a vaccine he likes.  In other people news, CPAC’s Matt Schlapp has settled the sexual assault charges brought against him by a former employee. The details of the $480,000 settlement were released only because Schlapp infuriated the accuser by asserting that he’d recanted his accusations. To be clear, the accuser, did not recant, but he did accept the settlement.  In international news, Israel’s Netanyahu had “successful” hernia surgery yesterday, but all remains a mess in Israel and Gaza and in Turkey, Prime Minister Erdogan lost big in local elections.  Lastly, Wall Street Journalist Evan Gershkovich has now been held in a Russian prison for more than one year, his crime, being a journalist.
